Enugu APC Targets 2 Million Members as Governor Peter Mbah Flags Off E-Registration Drive in Owo
The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set an ambitious target of enrolling no fewer than two million members as it officially flagged off its statewide electronic membership registration and revalidation exercise in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area.
The e-registration drive was formally inaugurated by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, marking a significant step in the party’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots presence, expand its membership base, and reposition itself ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, party leaders described the e-registration initiative as a critical reform aimed at modernising the APC’s internal processes and ensuring a credible, transparent, and up-to-date membership database. They noted that the digital registration system would replace the manual method, eliminate duplication, and make it easier for new members - particularly youths and women, to join the party across the 17 local government areas of Enugu State.
Governor Mbah, while inaugurating the exercise, emphasised the importance of inclusive political participation and encouraged residents of the state to take advantage of the opportunity to register and actively engage in the democratic process. He stressed that a strong and well-organised party structure remains vital to good governance and sustainable development.
According to party officials, the choice of Owo in Nkanu East LGA for the flag-off was symbolic, reflecting the APC’s resolve to deepen its roots at the community level and ensure that no part of the state is left out of the registration exercise. They added that trained registration officers and digital devices have been deployed to wards across the state to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free process.
The Enugu APC leadership expressed confidence that the two-million-member target is achievable, citing growing interest in the party and increasing political awareness among the populace. They called on stakeholders, party faithful, and supporters to mobilise at the ward and local government levels to ensure the success of the exercise.
The e-registration and revalidation drive is expected to run for several weeks, after which the party plans to unveil a comprehensive membership register that will serve as a foundation for future congresses, primaries, and elections in the state.
